# ACP: Drive Bolt from Zed and Other Editors

> Bolt speaks the Agent Client Protocol so editors like Zed can host it as a native AI backend, no separate app or TUI required.

Bolt implements the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), which is how editors like Zed talk to AI agents. Once configured, the editor spawns `bolt acp` as a subprocess and drives it directly — you get Bolt's agents, tools, sessions, and provider stack without leaving your editor.

## Enable ACP

In your editor's AI settings, add Bolt as an ACP-compatible agent and point it at:

```bash theme={null}
bolt acp
```

The editor will manage the process lifecycle. Configure providers, models, and MCP servers as you normally would in `.bolt/bolt.jsonc` — they apply here too.

## What you get

* Every Bolt agent, callable from the editor's AI panel.
* Shared sessions with the TUI and web UI (via the local database).
* The same tool set, permissions model, and project memory as any other Bolt entry point.
